News Update w/e 12th January

January 12, 2018

Our directors are engaged in an extensive schedule of meetings and consultations with partners and interested parties. We are pleased to present the first in a regular series of updates of the on-going discussions.

Consultancy Work Launched

An international consultancy has been commissioned to undertake an immediate first phase study of the ‘Fleetwood Quays’ leisure led scheme at Wyre Dock.  Jointly funded by Associated British Ports with Wyre Dock Development Ltd.  a specialist team visited Fleetwood for an initial site location review early in January.   Interviews with leisure operators and the tourism sector will follow on over the next six to eight weeks.

Fleetwood Back on Track

Wyre Dock Development launched a series of private exchanges late 2017 to encourage and facilitate actions which lead to reopening and put in place practical use of the right of way still in the ownership of Network Rail leading to Fleetwood from Poulton Le Fylde Station.

A rail alternative to the A585 road is deemed important in delivery of visitors to Fleetwood year round, as well as providing a strengthened communications resource for residents and local businesses on the north Fylde coast.  Discussions include participation in the most recent Fleetwood Town Council group ‘Fleetwood Back on Track’, as well as exploratory exchanges with Blackpool Transport boss, Jane Cole and the owners of the Hillhouses Estate which is now a designated Enterprise Zone (EZ).  The Estate straddles the existing track in Network Rail ownership and requirement for an at level crossing over the line to facilitate new capital investment is now a priority.   With the support of Associated British Ports WDDL expect a joined up solution that delivers a robust crossing and allows continuance of rail use beyond the new access road into the Enterprise Zone.

Shared views with NPL on respective aims and issues indicate potential for a positive outcome that ensures continuance of rail mode along the entire existing right of way and its importance for Fleetwood’s long term benefit.

Trams

Outline discussions have taken place both with Trampower Ltd. and Eric Wright Group, Preston, on requirements for a tourist tram installation at Wyre Dock.   Chairmen of both companies have visited Wyre Dock in January to inspect the location.    Consultation also is taking place with Blackpool Transport’s management on visitor access and potential synergies with the current light rail line into Fleetwood.
